vs Riverside Christian (Dec. 18, 2010)

In Randle for their third game of the week, the Timberwolves hosted the Crusaders and fell by the slimmest of margins 47-46.
Morton/White Pass led 18-10 after one and 24-22 at the break as sophomore Kayla Reynolds scored all 15 of her points in the first 16 minutes. She went 6 for 10 from the field in the first half with a trio of three-pointers, and at one point scored 13 straight points.
“Kayla’s first half was phenomenal,” coach Lauren Kanyer said. “I was really proud of her. That’s the best I’ve ever seen her play.”
The Timberwolves led 24-16 with 1:40 left in the first half, but through the end of the half and the first 4:24 of the third quarter Riverside Christian scored 16 consecutive points to lead 32-24 with 4:01 in the third.
Over the final 11:36, freshman Ashley Kelly carried the Timberwolves all the way back into the game. She scored a career-best 17 points in that span, connecting on 5 of 6 three-pointers (after missing her first she hit five straight) including one from the top of the key with 36 seconds remaining giving Morton/White Pass their first and only lead (46-45) of the second half.
“Ashley had a great second half,” Kanyer said. “She was 6 for 10 on the night. She finally shot the ball so that was good to see.”
With five seconds to go, the Crusaders’ Kristin Kinder rebounded her own miss and scored for the final one-point margin.
Whitney Elledge (six rebounds) and Darian Atkinson each scored five points, and Nicole Anderson and Stefana Bertucci both added two.
“We made 10 three-pointers for the game, but we only shot one free throw. We need to get the ball inside a little more to draw more fouls. We also need to block out better so we can get more rebounds. I thought Stef did a good job of guarding (Kendra) Staymates.”
