Jan. 6, 2011 (vs Wahkiakum at Randle)

Hosting the Mules from Cathlamet last Thursday in Randle the Timberwolves fell 46-41.
“I felt we should have won this game,” coach Lauren Kanyer said. “We played pretty good defense holding them to 19 percent shooting, but we gave them too many second chances.”
The game was tied at 15-15 after one quarter despite a fast T-Wolves’ start (they led 8-0 and 10-3) with the Mules taking a two-point halftime lead (26-24). Morton/White Pass knotted the game at 31-31 after three frames.
From the 51 second mark of the first quarter to the end of the game, Wahkiakum made just four field goals. They more than made up for their lack of field goal shooting with offensive rebounds (25 total) and points at the free throw line. They converted 22 of 35 for the game, with their final seven points coming at the line. They shot just under 20 percent for the game (10 of 51) and committed 23 turnovers.
The Timberwolves shot 35 percent in the first two quarters, but just 19 percent for the final two (14 of 55 for the game). Freshman Ashley Kelly led Morton/White Pass with 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting and a career-best 11 rebounds. She also finished with four steals. Fellow freshman Whitney Elledge added 15 points (three 3-pointers), six rebounds and three steals. Chelbi Eveland scored four points, Darian Atkinson three, Kayla Reynolds two and Nicole Anderson one. Stefana Bertucci grabbed seven of their 48 rebounds.
“Ashley and Whitney stepped up again for us offensively,” Kanyer said. “That was good to see. And Kayla played great defense on their point guard. We need to cut down on our turnovers (27), especially the unforced ones.”
