vs Raymond (Feb.9, 2011 / district at Montesano)

Morton / White Pass played Raymond in their district opener and lost 49-26 to the Seagulls.
The Wolves led 6-4 after a quarter as Raymond missed their first 13 shots and 15 of their first 16. The shooting woes then moved down the court to the Morton/White Pass bench. After senior Nicole Anderson scored their sixth point on a rebound putback with 3:47 remaining in the first quarter, the Timberwolves went the next nine minutes and 12 seconds without a point until Ashley Kelly’s three-pointer. They turned the ball over 12 times during that span and missed all 10 field goal attempts.
"We really struggled during that stretch," coach Lauren Kanyer said. "We have to be a little more patient with the ball and make better decisions. I think we were nervous and we got a little tight."
Despite shooting just 16 percent in the first half (3 of 19) they trailed by just five points at the break (16-11).
Morton / White Pass scored just four points in the third quarter and committed 10 of their 30 turnovers.
Kelly finished with 12 points on 4 of 10 shooting (2 of 3 three-pointers) and nine rebounds in her district tournament debut. Fellow freshman Whitney Elledge and junior Chelbi Eveland (eight rebounds) each scored four points with Anderson and Darian Atkinson both putting in three. Ten of the 12 players for Morton/White Pass were making their first appearances in a district tournament game.
The Timberwolves outrebounded the Seagulls 43-38. Stefana Bertucci finished with six. They were 9 of 44 shooting for the game (.205).
"We’re not out of this tournament yet," Kanyer said. "We just need to play better."
